How do you relate 25/30 fps to 24 fps? 25p in 25i is 25PsF, 30p in 30i is 30PsF. 24p is recorded either with 2-3 pulldown in 30i, or natively. Yes, many camcorders, even consumer ones, can record native 24p now. 24PsF is 24p recorded in 24i (or 48i if you like, though EBU prefers frame rate, not field rate), this is 48 fields per second. This rate is not used in consumer devices and not used in most professional camcorders either. It is/was used in studio equipment to digitize 24p films. This article needs to explain the notation. For example:

24PsF (48sF, 1080sf24, 1920x1080/24/1:1SF)

Why "sF" one minute and "sf" the next? Is there a meaning to using a lowercase or capital letter F?

What does "24/1:1SF" mean? The article doesn't explain these notational points and the cited reference is just as confused.

How is the progressive information stored on interlaced video? e.g. How are "25PsF, "24PsF" and "30PsF" stored?

There's inconsistency in the article when it comes to horizontal resolution: the author mentions HDV not being true PsF because it has horizontal resolution of 1440 pixels, but the same 1440 pixel horizontal resolution applies to HDCAM and XDCAM HD, which are said to offer true PsF.

As far as i know, the resolution is irrelevant - PsF is just a way to store progressive frames to interleaved video stream, regardless of pixel count.

There is a line in the article that says that PSF formats are gaining popularity because most web hosting sites can't handle more than 30p. Is this outdated information? I know that YouTube supports higher frame rates, and almost nobody I know in the video engineering business even knows what PSF video is anymore (except for a few of the older guys). On top of that, interlaced video formats in general are falling out of favor because nobody is using tube TVs anymore and digital displays don't support them natively, requiring de-interlacing techniques to avoid video artifacts. 100.36.41.159 (talk) 23:34, 14 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
