"Stochastic vectors are commonly used to represent discrete probability distributions." This out of the topic in article, correct? --Obsolete.fax (talk) 11:57, 12 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Properties of Probability Vectors

As i come across properties of probability vectors in my work i will add them here in no particular order. The idea is that someone else will have a nice list to use that is easily accessible. Anyone who would check my work, improve my writing, or add additional properties would be doing a good thing. TwerpySugar (talk) 22:27, 1 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

I used the pseudonym TwerpySugar back in 2010 because my employer thought of Wikipedia as an unauthorized publication. I note now in 2025 that no one chose to add anything to the list of properties, which i find odd, and i am not sure why. So, i added a significant property today, the bounds on the variance, and i will add more soon. I'm going to seek guidance as to whether or not the derivation of these properties is necessary. They are not difficult to derive but without them the reader may question the truth of the properties. I checked them, and i had ChatGPT check them and they are correct. Interpretation of the bounds on variance

i only referenced statistical mechanics and physics because i think a page on probability vectors should stick as closely as possible to thinking in terms of uncertainty. But clearly we could rewrite this in terms of information theory or physical entropy, but the message would be the same: the universe is infinitely detailed, but knowledge is crudely finite. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Timmy TRT (talkcontribs) 17:14, 1 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Interpretation of Derivatives

I added 6 derivatives to the properties list because i thought they may be useful as we get into discussing how the concentration of probability changes as the variance (or equivalent length) changes. We can add additional derivatives if i ever figure out they are useful, which is pretty likely i would think. But for now the list is already pretty extensive. Next i will write an interpretation paragraph based on those derivatives in the properties list. Timmy TRT (talk) 20:25, 10 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
