Frame and Lethal White
In the process of editing this article, the question of whether frame overo "causes" lethal white syndrome keeps popping up. Basically people on one side say it does, and other people are equally adamant that it doesn't. All the genetics articles to date go so far as to state that frame overo is "associated" with LWS and that it only appears in horses that carry frame in their pedigrees. It clearly does appear in foals with parents who do not visibly appear frame. However, I cannot find any scientific articles stating that frame overo "causes" LWS. Maybe a geneticist can explain how the EDNRB links to frame patterning and LWS. It is counterintuitive that if frame overo is a dominant yet LWS foals are born to parents without frame phenotype, including solids, then LWS is acting like a recessive. As this is a very serious issue, particularly because some people are deliberately breeding LWS carriers to produce frame overo and calling it the "overo test," it is important that the facts are as accurate as possible. Therefore, please provide footnotes to each statement added and discuss any material that is a source of disagreement here before editing. I do not have all the answers but am very interested in getting to the bottom of the question. Montanabw(talk) 20:52, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
Sabino
Because sabino exists in breeds other than paints, and in breeds that won't register "pintos," this section needs to be kept to a minimum, with detail explained in the sabino horse article. Montanabw(talk) 22:16, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
Paint and pinto
Because many breeds besides the American Paint Horse have overo patterning, be careful to distinguish sources, this article isn't about Paints, it's about overo coloring and, to the extent it can be explained in plain English, the genetics. Montanabw(talk) 22:16, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
