Fugger and "fuckerey"
I wonder whether the German term "fuckerey," apparently first used in the early 16th century in reference to Jakob Fugger's extreme profiteering and allegedly resultant mass impoverishment (e.g in Tyrol), might be an explanatory addendum or merely is coincidental? Earlier uses are possible, especially since the Fugger family's latinzed version is "Fucker" (e.g., Fucker advenit dedit XLIII denarios dignus - Tax Code, Augsburg, 1367) and given their Europe-wide reach beginning in the mid to late 14th century (Source: Damals, 7, July 2004, pp. 15-23 and pp. 25-29)

On the Wikipedia app, it keeps saying this article is one of the most read on the top read list, why? 2600:1003:B144:85B3:85A5:8F5:98D4:4651 (talk) 19:08, 10 September 2025 (UTC)
- Maybe some high profile site is linking to it and talking about it? I'm not sure if there is any easy way to find out what or why. --DanielRigal (talk) 19:24, 11 September 2025 (UTC)
- Because it's a pretty decent summary of what's going on in the world these days I guess. 2001:9E8:4618:8E00:7839:B2D:B387:F2E3 (talk) 13:02, 15 September 2025 (UTC)
- You are right on, my friend! In my lifetime (which began before shortly before 1950) I have observed the "F-word" transition from profoundly vulgar and offensive to widely acceptable in casual conversation. This transition has accelerated in the last 10 years. You can verify the change in acceptance by viewing old movies and noting the year they were produced. Of course, Hollywood is known for pioneering profanity so you will find that some of it goes back a long way. I remember sitting in a theatre in Malden, MO, in 1968 watching Bullitt starring Steven McQueen. When he voiced the word bullshit I heard an audible gasp of shock whoosh across the audience. We've come a long way since then. Mulehide (talk) 16:01, 10 March 2026 (UTC)

Wikipedia is not a dictionary
This is not an encyclopedia article. In a world where Wikipedia still retains any hope of being taken seriously, it should be deleted. As a reminder: Wikipedia:Wikipedia is not a dictionary. Eric talk 02:27, 14 May 2026 (UTC)
- Agree that Wikipedia is not a dictionary, which is why articles about words are more than just their definition. Like this article.
- Is there some specific policy at WP:DICT that would preclude the inclusion of this article? If so, let's hear it. Mr. Swordfish (talk) 03:15, 14 May 2026 (UTC)
