At Wikipedia:Reference desk/Miscellaneous#Second option of WP:DICTS, DuncanHill, pointed out that the Los Angeles Times, 17 April 1929. According to this search Page 47 "The Sunset Fields public golf course company has about decided to install a driving range on its property." Also, Baseball Bugs, pointed out that on Newspapers.com, there is Lancaster, PA, on October 1, 1924. Also, in the L.A. According to Merriam-Webster and Oxford English Dictionary , the first written use of the English word driving range, dates back only to 1929. I seen at https://www.merriam-webster.com/grammar/how-to-use-the-dictionary under First Known Use, shows where they found it. However, I been looking for a source where they got this information, and I am not seeing much pop up on the web. Such information may be in books, yet I am not seeing much, I seen this https://www.golfhistoricalsociety.org/ghswordpress/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Pico-Fairway-1929-Driving-Range.pdf talking about it in 29, yet that is all that I have found on the web. I am unsure if Merriam-Webster is good enough per WP:DICTS. Any thoughts? Issac I Navarro (talk) 05:35, 14 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
