Name history/origin

It'd be wonderful to have something in detail here about the origin of the name.

My belief is that the name pre-dates the Štúr orthography, and also pre-dates Slovak settlement in the area, which has two results that I see:

  • Representing the name as Slovak/Slavic, instead of just Slavic, is problematic. If you accept this, then:
  • The spelling děva would more accurately represent the root word.

Though really I have too much Bratislava on my plate to get too worked up about it myself. Hopefully someone with better source material at hand will come along and make a miracle happen :). MikeGogulski 10:47, 21 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
