- I came here from the taxicab article; this article mostly talks about public safety CAD systems. -- Beland 20:28, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
- I'm wondering how field units are located both with and without GPS on the vehicles. Can the dispatcher find the closest one by looking at a real-time map, or does the computer automatically find the best one? Or do you announce on the radio, "whoever is closest to location X please respond"? -- Beland
- Without GPS is anyone's guess and probably varies tremendously by the location. For Police, I do not know. For urban/suburban areas, I would guess that police units are assigned to different areas (zones) within a jurisdiction, then the dispatcher would dispatch an incident, and probably assign a unit, and if another unit were closer, they could add-on to it or take it. Fire-rescue, they definitely have zones corresponding with the fire/rescue station, and they're dispatched like that. Taxis...no idea. With GPS, they probably just look at a map and choose a unit closest. That probably works best for things like Taxis and non-emergency transport ambulance services. --MPD T / C 22:04, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
- The entire entry seems pretty narrow focused on a particular viewpoint. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.58.20.113 (talk) 12:40, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
Copyright violation?
While I don't have access to the "Original article" that is listed (An Integrated Public-Safety Computer-Aided Dispatch System), the article reads like an essay. It poses (8) questions to the reader throughout the article and then proceeds to expand on the question asked. Either way, this article needs some major clean-up but I'd hate to clean it up only to find that it's a copy of the "original article" mentioned. -- MacAddct 1984 (talk • contribs) 13:17, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
CAD & Related Software Packages?
I need to read some justification for this section. It's surely jsut a list of adverts. See WP:EL. I'm removing it. --Matt Lewis (talk) 00:18, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
Agree. Thanks for removing it. David Jordan 05/27/2008.
