Mark Joseph Deering (6 March 1900 – 26 April 1973) was an Irish Fine Gael politician.

Early life

Mark Joseph Deering was born on 6 March 1900 in Milltown, Dunlavin, County Wicklow. He was the son of Mark Deering, a farmer, and Catherine née Costello.[1]

Rugby

Deering played for the Ireland national rugby union team against Wales at Ravenhill Stadium, Belfast on 9 March 1929.[2]

Political career

Deering first stood for election at the 1951 general election but was not successful. He was elected to Dáil Éireann as a Fine Gael Teachta Dála (TD) for the Wicklow constituency at the 1953 by-election caused by the death of Thomas Brennan of Fianna Fáil.[3]

He was re-elected at the 1954 general election but lost his seat at the 1957 general election.[4] He was an unsuccessful candidate at the 1965 general election.[4]

Death

Deering died on 26 April 1973. He was buried in Hollywood, County Wicklow.
