The Clock Tower of Elgin was a public clock tower erected in Athens between 1811 and 1814. The clock was donated by Thomas Bruce, 7th Earl of Elgin and ordered in 1806,[1] but the tower was built and paid for by the city.[2] It stood in the area of the Roman Agora of Athens near the Library of Hadrian and was the first mechanical public clock in the city.[3] The tower was destroyed in a fire in 1884, and only fragments of the clock mechanism and inscriptions survive.[4][5]
