WordSum is a web-based daily word puzzle game developed in 2025 and available at wordsum.co.[1] The game assigns a number value to each letter of the alphabet (A=1, B=2, etc) and players use these values to help guess the daily 3, 4 and 5 letter words. The game displays each word's "target sum" which is the sum of that word's letter values.
Gameplay
There are three levels of gameplay: one for a three-letter word, one for a four-letter word, and one for a five letter word. Each day, WordSum generates a new word for each level, and displays that word's target sum. Players have three attempts to solve the three letter word; four attempts for the four letter word; and five for the five letter word. A timer begins upon the player's first attempt in each level and an overall solve time is displayed upon completion of the game.
Style and Influences
The visuals of the game borrow from Wordle with each guess displaying which, if any, letters in a player's guess are also part of the target word. WordSum, however, does not indicate if any such letters are in the correct position, only that they are in the word. This allows for multiple solutions to each puzzles, with anagrams playing and allowed as winning solves.[2]
WordSum was influenced by and combines the basic elements of Wordle and Jumble as well as basic math and logic. As of November 2025 the game is free to play and incorporates no ad monetization.
Reception
WordSum was launched in 2025 as a mobile-optimized web based game.[3] The official Facebook page (WordSum) was established around the launch and serves as a hub for announcements and user-submitted high scores.
