Toolio is an American cloud-based merchandise planning software company founded in 2019 and headquartered in Brooklyn, New York. The company develops planning software for mid-market and enterprise retailers in verticals including apparel, footwear, home goods, and sporting goods. Its platform covers merchandise financial planning, assortment planning, item planning, and inventory allocation.
In 2025, Forrester Research included the company as one of 20 vendors in its The Retail Planning Platforms Landscape, Q4 2025.[1]
History
Founding (2019)
Toolio was founded in 2019 by Eytan Daniyalzade and Berk Atikoglu, both Stanford University alumni and former Walmart employees.[2]
The founders had previously co-founded Stylr, a location-based shopping application that aggregated inventory data across retail store locations. Stylr was acquired by @WalmartLabs, Walmart's technology division, in 2014.[3][4][5][6] According to the company, during their tenure at Walmart the founders worked on retail technology products including Sam's Club Scan & Go and Walmart Pay.[7]
In interviews, Daniyalzade has said the founders left Walmart in 2019 to address the gap between consumer-facing retail technology and the spreadsheet-driven tools still used by merchandise planners, telling TechCrunch: "Even at a company of that scale, the process was spreadsheet driven. We realized there was a gap and left Walmart in 2019 to democratize the next planning platform."[2]
Series A funding (2021)
In October 2021, Toolio announced an $8 million Series A funding round led by Jump Capital, with participation from Rho Capital's Ignition Fund and existing investors Founder Collective, Notation Capital, and Max Ventures. The round brought total funding to $10.3 million.[2][8][9]
At the time of the announcement, the company reported that it had managed over $1 billion in inventory for retail customers including Chubbies, Mack Weldon, and Rothy's, and that it had grown 20% month over month in revenue and customer count.[2] Yelena Shkolnik, a partner at Jump Capital, said that "inventory was the one piece of the retail stack that wasn't elevated to the cloud, and Toolio has made it possible for everything now to be on the cloud."[2]
Product and market expansion (2022–2026)
Toolio was named to CB Insights' Retail Tech 100 in 2022, listed in the report's "Merchandise planning & inventory management" category.[10] The company was also included in The Lead's Leading 100 list of 2023, in the "Inventory, Merchandising, Product & Pricing" category.[11]
According to the company, it added an assortment planning module in 2023 that supports modeling new products, clustering store locations, and managing product lifecycle from launch through end-of-life.[12]
In July 2025, Toolio joined the Microsoft for Startups Pegasus Program and made its platform available through the Microsoft Azure Marketplace.[13][14]
In December 2025, The Business of Fashion profiled Toolio's approach to AI-driven retail planning, describing its focus on forecast optimization and reducing excess inventory.[15]
In 2025, Forrester Research listed Toolio as one of 20 vendors in The Retail Planning Platforms Landscape, Q4 2025, authored by Sucharita Kodali, which categorized the company as a small vendor—defined by Forrester as $10 million to under $100 million in category revenue—focused on apparel and footwear, furniture and home furnishings, and wholesale.[1]
In 2026, Toolio launched a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, which the company says enables retailers to connect external AI clients to live planning data and to run plain-language queries against merchandise plans, fiscal calendars, and inventory records.[16] Also in 2026, co-founder and CEO Eytan Daniyalzade was named to RETHINK Retail's list of Top Retail Experts.[17]
Platform
According to the company, Toolio's platform consists of four core planning modules.[18][19]
Merchandise financial planning supports top-down financial planning, including open-to-buy management, in-season retrending, and performance tracking across actual, plan, last-year, and variance metrics. Assortment planning provides tools for developing product assortments at the SKU level, including store clustering, product lifecycle management, and integration with product lifecycle management (PLM) systems. Item planning supports SKU-level forecasting and buy planning, enabling planners to generate purchase orders and manage replenishment. Allocation supports distribution of inventory across store locations based on sales rate, store capacity, and demand signals.
The company describes AI forecasting capabilities across these modules, including a "tournament forecasting" method that runs multiple statistical models and selects the most accurate per product or category, along with automated data cleansing and assortment rationalization.[19] The platform integrates with e-commerce platforms, enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, and point-of-sale systems to ingest sales and inventory data.

Toolio is incorporated as Bozburun, Inc. and is headquartered in Brooklyn, New York, with an engineering office in Istanbul, Turkey.[20] As of 2026, business databases estimate the company employs approximately 79 people.[21]

He holds bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford University and previously served as a director of omnichannel engineering at Walmart Global eCommerce, with earlier roles at McKinsey, Microsoft, Chartbeat, and Adap.tv.[22] In a 2023 interview with Sourcing Journal, Daniyalzade discussed the company's approach to retail planning, allocation, and artificial intelligence.[23]
Berk Atikoglu is co-founder and chief technology officer, responsible for the company's engineering and product development.
