Thomas Flight is an American film critic, video essayist, YouTuber, writer and film critic.

Career

Filmmaking

Flight began experimenting with filmmaking at the age of 18 working as an Extra, PA, DIT, 1st Assistant Camera, Camera Operator, Boom Operator, Grip, Cinematographer, Sound Designer, Editor, Director, Screenwriter and Producer on a variety of different commercial projects and independent shorts.[1] He has released the experimental film Labyrinth Ion on Nebula[2][3] and is scheduled to release the documentary feature Out of a Flood, documenting the events following Hurricane Helene, in 2026.[4]

Video essays

Flight is well known for his video essays on YouTube that he has pursued as a career since 2016. His channel gained notoriety in 2019 through his video "Bohemian Rhapsody's Terrible Editing - A Breakdown" where he critiqued the editing of Bohemian Rhapsody following its controversial Best Editing win at the 91st Academy Awards, which quickly became viral resulting in a response from the film’s editor John Ottman.[5][6][7] [8] His channel currently has over 1 million subscribers.

Film criticism

Flight publishes film-related articles through his newsletter titled ‘Seeing Through Film’ available on Substack where he reviews movies as well as providing analytical thoughts on trends in the film industry.
