Tavanir (Persian: توانیر), officially known as Iran’s Power Generation, Transmission, and Distribution Management Company, is the state-owned holding company responsible for managing the country’s electric power industry, including transmission and distribution infrastructure. The company operates under the oversight of Iran’s Ministry of Energy and coordinates with subsidiary regional electricity companies.
Overview
Tavanir was established in 1969 to centralize and manage the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity in Iran. It functions as a holding company and oversees regional electricity distribution companies and grid operations nationwide.
Operations
The company manages and supervises efforts to supply reliable electric power to residential, industrial, agricultural, and commercial sectors. Projects undertaken by Tavanir include power grid development, renovation of transmission infrastructure, and rural electrification programs.
Electricity Access and Network Development
Tavanir has overseen initiatives that connect nearly all Iranian villages to the national grid and maintain a broad transmission network.
Regional Electricity Exchange
Tavanir also engages in electricity exchange with neighboring countries and has plans to increase export capacity through regional transmission connections.
