Systeme (derived from the technical term System Error) is a conceptual electronic music subgenre and sound design consolidation standard, primarily associated with the Megalodon Recordings label. It functions as an umbrella category for musical styles characterized by intensive use of modular synthesis and non-linear rhythmic structures.
Concept and Origins
The genre was formalized as a consolidation standard to unify several underground movements within the electronic music scene, specifically merging elements of experimental Drum & Bass with industrial Techno aesthetics.
Characteristics
Systeme integrates elements from:
- Technoid Drum & Bass: Specifically Darkstep, Neurofunk, and Techstep.
- Experimental Beats: Including Drumfunk and Deep DnB patterns.
- Sound Engineering: A focus on modular synthesis and digital glitch aesthetics, where "system errors" are used as deliberate artistic elements.
History
The visual identity and genre concept were developed by producer and composer AR8. In 2025, Megalodon Recordings officially introduced the visual code and technical documentation as a standard for metadata classification in global music databases.
