Álvaro “SunPayus” García (born November 19, 1998) is a Spanish professional Counter-Strike player known for his role as an AWPer and competing at elite levels in both Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) and Counter-Strike 2 (CS2).[1]

Early life and career

Álvaro García was born on November 19, 1998, in Murcia, Spain.[2] He began his competitive Counter-Strike career in 2018, playing for regional Spanish teams such as Myrtia Wolves Blue and Tenerife Titans.[3] Over the next years, he built experience with multiple organizations in Spain including KPI Gaming, Wygers, and Caronte Gaming, establishing himself as a reliable sniper in online and LAN competition.[4]

Professional career

Rise in European Esports

SunPayus’s breakthrough came in 2021 when he joined Movistar Riders, one of Spain’s most prominent esports organizations, competing primarily in CS:GO events.[5] His performances attracted attention internationally and led to a move in 2022 to ENCE, a Finnish competitive team regularly featured in top-tier tournaments.[6] With ENCE, he competed at major CS:GO events and achieved notable results, including deep runs at ESL Pro League and Intel Extreme Masters events, contributing to his rise in the global rankings.[7]

In 2023, SunPayus gained widespread recognition for his individual level of play, including being ranked among the world’s top Counter-Strike players by leading esports analysts; a historic achievement for a Spanish competitor.[8]

Team Falcons and HEROIC

In 2024, SunPayus signed with Team Falcons, competing in Counter-Strike 2 across European LAN tournaments.[9] Later that year, following a short tenure with Falcons, he joined HEROIC in early 2025 as part of the organization’s CS2 roster.[10]

G2 Esports

After competing at major events including the BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025, SunPayus and coach Eetu “sAw” Saha were officially confirmed as transfers to G2 Esports later in 2025, marking a move to one of the most internationally recognized esports organizations.[11] He currently plays as the main AWPer for G2’s CS2 roster.[12]

Playstyle

SunPayus is known for his role as an AWPer (sniper), specializing in long-range engagement and precise aim. His approach combines positional discipline with tactical awareness, often anchoring the team’s defensive setups and clutch opportunities in high-pressure situations. His performances have been lauded for consistency and impact, particularly in high-level tournaments.[13]

Achievements

SunPayus has competed in numerous top-tier Counter-Strike events, including BLAST Premier, Intel Extreme Masters, and multiple CS2 Majors such as PGL Major Stockholm 2021, IEM Rio Major 2022, BLAST Paris Major 2023 and StarLadder Budapest Major 2025. His individual accolades include being ranked among the top 20 players worldwide in 2023 according to respected esports ranking metrics; a first for a Spanish player in the scene.[14]

Over his career he has earned significant tournament prize money, adding up to approximately $364,169 and was named the sixth best player in the world in 2023 by HLTV.[1]
