Summize is a British legal technology company that develops contract lifecycle management (CLM) software for legal and business teams. Its software enables legal and business teams to draft, negotiate and manage contracts.

History

Summize's UK legal entity was incorporated in June 2018 in Manchester, England under the name Summize Limited [1]. The business was founded by former legal director Tom Dunlop and former senior web developer David Smith [2].

In 2023, the company opened its first US office in Boston, Massachusetts [3]. In 2025 the company opened its second US office in San Diego, California.[4].

Funding

In 2020, Summize received an investment from Maven Capital Partners as part of the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund [5]. In 2022, the company secured a £5 million Series A funding led by YFM Equity Partners (YFM) and Maven Capital Partners (Maven) [6]. In 2026, Summize completed a £40 million funding and reinvestment round involving Maven Capital Partners, new investors Kennet Partners and Federated Hermes Private Equity, and existing investor YFM Equity Partners [7].

Recognition

In 2025, Nucleus Research published a case study examining Matillion's use of Summize and reporting a calculated return on investment of 4,062 percent [8].

In 2025, Summize was ranked 50th in the Sifted 100: UK & Ireland Leaderboard [9]. The company also received the Innovation in Legal Services award at the Legal Technology Awards 2025 [10] and was ranked 10th in the Deloitte UK Technology Fast 50 [11].
