Sukhdev Toor is a Canadian businessman, hotelier, and philanthropist.[1][2] He is the founder, president, and chief executive officer of Manga Hotel Group, a privately held hospitality investment and management company headquartered in Toronto, Ontario.

Early Life and Education

A Sikh Canadian originally from Punjab, India, Toor immigrated to Ontario, Canada as an engineer in the 1980s and studied for an MBA at the University of Waterloo.[3][4] He holds a degree in civil engineering[5][6]. He entered the hospitality industry after purchasing his first motel in St. Catharines, Ontario in 1987 and began building the Manga Hotel Group.[3][7]

Career

Starting from the 1990s, Toor built Manga Hotel Group from a single property to owning and operating 34 hotels and approximately 6,000 rooms as of October 2025.[4][8]. He built the first Hampton Inn in Canada and Canada's first LEED-certified hotel.[4][9][10] Toor introduced the first Hilton-branded hotel properties in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia which he built.[11][12] Manga Hotel Group has a vertically integrated business model that covers land acquisition, construction, hotel operations, and property management.[4][9][8][13]

Manga Hotel Group is affiliated with flagship brands such as Hilton, Marriott, Hyatt, and InterContinental Hotel Group[9], and also develops residential and commercial properties throughout Canada and the United States.[14]

Toor has built 16 hotels from the ground up and developed independent hotels including the namesake TOOR Hotel Toronto,[4][15][16] SoHo 54 Hotel in New York City,[17] the Atlantica Hotel Halifax[18] and The Hollis Halifax.[11] In addition to hotel construction, Toor has also constructed multiple purpose built rental residential buildings.[10][19][20]

Awards and Recognition

Toor also speaks regularly at industry events such as the Canadian Hotel Investment Conference.[23][27][28]

Philanthropy

Toor established the Toor Family Foundation[29] which is focused on promoting health, wellness, art, and culture. The foundation has made a $1 million donation to the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) and a $1 million donation to the Royal Ontario Museum.[3][1][30]
