Shotkhar valley is located in District Upper Chitral, Khyber PakhtunKhwa, within Tehsil Torkhow, at an elevation of over 3,027 meters (9,931 ft) above sea level, situated in the heart of the Hindu Kush mountain ranges. In remote past it was known for life-threatening scarcity of water. But at present, the village enjoys facility of both drinking and irrigation water.

Population and Religious Composition

Shotkhar has an population of up to 3,000, all of whom are Muslims. The religious composition includes 80% Shia Imami Ismaili Nizari Muslims and 20% Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat Deoband , living together in harmony and mutual respect.

The people of Shotkhar primarily speak Khowar, the native language of the Kho people, which is widely spoken throughout Chitral and the surrounding regions. In addition to Khowar, Urdu is also commonly understood, allowing communication with visitors and people from other parts of Pakistan.
