Shipwell is an American software company that produces transportation management systems (TMS) and supply chain management software to help businesses and shippers plan, execute and optimize shipping processes.[1] The company's software is used by logistics and supply chain supply chain professionals in the retail, manufacturing, food & beverage and distribution industries.

History

Founded in 2016 as OtterLogic, Shipwell originally focused solely on over-the-road (abbv. OTR) shipments.[2] In 2017, the company rebranded[3] as Shipwell when the platform expanded its offerings to include transportation management functionality such as real-time shipment visibility and analytics.[4] In 2024, Shipwell sold its brokerage arm to CloudTrucks[5] to focus on its software as a service (SaaS) platform.

Products and services

Shipwell's main offering is its cloud-based Transportation Management System (TMS), which automates freight procurement, optimizes carrier selection, and uses real-time shipment tracking to provide greater visibility into shipments. The platform supports multiple transportation modes, including FTL, LTL, ocean, air, drayage, final mile, and parcel shipments.[6] Shipwell offers its product across a variety of industries, including manufacturing, food and beverage,[7][8] and consumer goods.

Key features include:

  • Visibility and tracking: Tools that aggregate location and status data from carriers and connected devices to provide in-transit visibility.[9]
  • Analytics and reporting: Dashboards and reports for performance metrics such as on-time delivery, rate insights, and service-level compliance.[10][11]
  • AI Automation: Platform-integrated AI capabilities for appointment booking, workflow automation, and logistics assistant to handle routine tasks efficiently.[12]
  • Pricing intelligence: Access real-time spot rates, historical pricing data, and contract rate benchmarking to compare contract rates, evaluate carrier rate changes, and identify cost-saving opportunities.[13]
  • Integrations: Connectivity with carriers, brokers, and enterprise systems via APIs and other data connections.[14][15][16]

Funding

Shipwell is venture-backed,[17] and has undergone multiple rounds of funding. In 2018, the company raised $10 million in Series A funding.[18][19] In 2019, the company raised $35 million in Series B funding.[20][21]

Awards and recognition

Shipwell has been covered by industry publications in the context of transportation management systems and supply chain technology.[1] The company has appeared on industry lists that track logistics and freight-technology firms.[22][23]

  • Shipwell was named a Visionary in the Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Transportation Management Systems in 2025.[24] They have previously appeared in this report as Niche Player in 2021[25][26] & 2022[27] and Challenger in 2023 & 2024.[28]
