Securosys SA is an internationally active Swiss technology company headquartered in Zürich, developing hardware and software and providing services to protect digital assets, identities, and communications from cyberattacks.
The company operates exclusively in the business-to-business segment and is owned by its employees, founders, and a small group of Swiss investors. Its hardware security modules (HSMs) have been used to secure the Swiss Interbank Clearing (SIC) payment system since 2016, Switzerland's central real-time gross settlement system processing hundreds of billions of Swiss francs in interbank payments daily under the supervision of the Swiss National Bank.[1]
History
The Zürich-based company was founded in 2014 by two ETH Zurich engineers, Andreas Curiger and Robert Rogenmoser.[2]
The first customer was SIX Interbank Clearing, which selected Securosys' Swiss-developed and -manufactured hardware security module (HSM) to protect national and international payments processed in real time over SIX's payment platform.[3]
In 2016, development of the first HSM generation was completed and research findings on protecting cryptographic algorithms against cyberattacks were published.[4] The HSM design was subsequently filed as a patent.[5]
In 2017, the company introduced cloud-based HSM services in Switzerland under the name CloudHSM, providing customers with cryptographic key management without the need to operate their own hardware.
In 2018, a blockchain HSM for securing blockchain-based transactions was launched, partly financed through crowdfunding in the form of an initial coin offering (ICO).[6]
In September 2018, a sales office was established in Kaufbeuren, Germany, and in April 2019, one in Hong Kong. The company also began sustained engagement in applied research into post-quantum cryptography (PQC).[7] In a 2020 feature on post-quantum cryptography, Neue Zürcher Zeitung reported on the company's collaboration with academic researchers to develop quantum-resistant hardware security modules. From 2021, CloudHSM services were progressively extended to additional regions — Germany in 2021, and globally across clusters in the USA, Singapore, EU, and Switzerland by 2022. In the same period, the product Securosys 365 was launched, enabling encrypted storage of Microsoft 365 files in the Microsoft Azure cloud under customer control.
Since 2023, Securosys has been participating in the EU-funded research project "Resilient Trust",[9] focusing on cybersecurity for the lifecycle management of Internet of Things (IoT) devices.
In 2024, the next generation of HSMs was brought to market, featuring increased performance, flexible APIs, and support for the now widely standardized PQC algorithms.
In 2025, a US sales office was opened in Palo Alto, Silicon Valley.
Products and Technologies
The core product of Securosys is the Primus HSM family — hardware security modules available in various configurations for data center deployment. The devices are certified to FIPS 140-2 Level 3 (FIPS 140-3 Level 3 certification in progress) and Common Criteria EAL4+, and are entirely designed and manufactured in Switzerland. In a 2022 analysis of hardware security module manufacturers, ABI Research identified Securosys as a strong innovator in the HSM market.[10]
Under the name CloudHSM, Securosys operates a cloud-based HSM platform that gives customers secure access to cryptographic services without needing to operate their own hardware. The service is available in multiple regions (Switzerland, EU/Germany, USA, APAC, and as a global cluster). An independent test by the German trade publication IT-Administrator (October 2025) awarded CloudHSM scores of 8/10 for interfaces and documentation, and 7/10 for algorithms, integrations, and support.[11]
A proprietary Securosys technology is Smart Key Attributes (SKA), which enables fine-grained control of access rights to cryptographic keys through individual rules and multi-authorization workflows. Since 2024, the latest-generation HSMs also support the standardized post-quantum cryptography (PQC) algorithms including ML-KEM, ML-DSA, and SLH-DSA.
The product Securosys365 enables encrypted storage of Microsoft 365 files in the Microsoft Azure cloud under full customer control via a Securosys HSM.
In April 2026, Securosys launched CyberVault KMS, an HSM-centric key management system that combines key lifecycle management, cryptographic operations, and certificate management in a unified environment. The system operates directly on Securosys HSMs, includes support for NIST-standardized post-quantum cryptography algorithms and a natural-language interface for key management.[12]
Securosys HSMs and CloudHSM support integration with a broad range of enterprise security platforms, including next-generation firewalls, PKI solutions, secrets management systems, cloud key management services, and privileged access management tools.
