Sean Weatherall is an American musician and Buddhist monk known for his involvement in regional music in China’s Yunnan province, his contributions to the band 濮曼, and his subsequent monastic life in Bhutan. He has been the subject of documentary features produced by national broadcasters in both China and Bhutan.
Music career in China
Weatherall was active as a musician in Yunnan, China, where he worked with local artists and explored the fusion of regional musical traditions with global genres. He is a former member and writer for the band 濮曼, and has published music credits for his contributions.
His work and experiences were documented in a 2021 documentary produced by China Central Television.
Monastic life in Bhutan
He later moved to Bhutan, where he entered monastic life within the Bhutanese Buddhist tradition. His transition from musician to monk is the focus of the 2026 documentary On the Middle Path with Lopen Sean Weatherall, produced by Bhutan Broadcasting Service.
