Sam Baro (born 16 June 1976) is a Belgian entrepreneur, investor, and sports executive. He is the founder and chief executive officer of Planet Group, a Belgian human resources company, and owner of the football club KAA Gent.

Early life and education

Baro was born in Assenede, East Flanders, Belgium. After studying in Ghent, he started his career in the human resources sector, working as a recruiter and HR manager at an ICT company. Following several restructurings and acquisitions, he obtained increasing managerial responsibilities before founding his own business.

Career

Planet Group

In 2006, Baro founded Planet Group, a staffing and HR services company specializing in information technology, healthcare, engineering, and project sourcing. Subsidiaries of the company include IT-Planet, HR-Planet, and X-Care In Motion.

Under Baro's leadership, Planet Group expanded rapidly throughout Belgium. By 2023, the company employed approximately 2,000 people and generated an annual turnover of around €85 million.

In 2020, investment company Creafund acquired a minority stake in Planet Group to support the company’s national and international expansion strategy.

Other business activities

Baro later diversified his activities into media, hospitality, and real estate investments. He founded the creative agency KoWala Productions, active in media, communication, design, and events. Through KoWala, he participated in the acquisition of design agency Gelo, catering company De Feestarchitect, and regional broadcaster AVS.

He also invested in several heritage and real estate projects in Belgium, including the restoration of the historic Roegiers Castle in Oosteeklo, the Sint-Amandus Chapel in Ghent, and the Château de Jemeppe estate near Durbuy.

K.A.A. Gent

In 2023, Baro became owner and investor of Belgian Pro League football club K.A.A. Gent after acquiring a controlling stake in the club. He stated that his objective was to ensure the club’s long-term financial and sporting stability while maintaining its local identity.
