Sad Socket is an indie video game company, located in São Paulo and New York city.[1] The studio is founded by the partners Rafael Melo e André Young[2] and is notable by the creation of the titles like 9 Kings, Seraph's Last Stand, and upcoming title Ending Tau.[3][4][5][6][7]

History

The founders meet each other in the childhood and created video games in a casual form since 2005[3], Rafael and André walked to different ways and meeting each other again in 2021 for the company founding. André Young created a notable career as content creator releated to development of video game and diversity[8], while Rafael Melo moved to New York, where he built a career as creative director[9][10] and musician[11][12], before reuniting to focus on developing original games.[7]

9 Kings, the developer's biggest hit, sold over 250,000 copies in its first week, receiving positive reviews from critics and players alike, with a 93% approval rating on Steam based on over ten thousand reviews. The game reached a peak of over 13,900 simultaneous players in the second weekend after its release.[13]

At the end of the first month of early access, 9 Kings has already surpassed 400,000 copies sold and is establishing itself as one of the biggest releases in the history of the Brazilian gaming industry.[14]

The publisher Hooded Horse, know for titles like Manor Lords and Against the Storm, praised the commercial success of 9 Kings, Describing it as "one of the biggest releases from a Brazilian studio for PC," Tim Bender, the company's CEO, praised the partnership with Sad Socket in press releases.[15][16]

besides the development of 9 Kings, the company informed that still focus on the development of your most ambitious project, called "Ending Tau".[7]
