SATHEE (Self-Assessment, Test and Help for Entrance Exams) is a free educational technology platform launched by the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur). The platform provides preparation resources for national competitive examinations, aiming to reduce student dependency on commercial coaching centers and democratize access to quality education.
Background
SATHEE was developed as a Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) initiative to align with the equitable education goals of India's National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020). It aims to bridge the educational gap for students from economically and socially weaker sections, particularly in rural areas.[1]
The platform was officially launched in March 2023 by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. SATHEE is completely free of charge and operates without premium subscription tiers. According to data from the Department of Higher Education, the portal had registered over 400,000 students by mid-2024.[2]
Platform Features
The platform's core educational content—including video lectures, Daily Practice Problems (DPPs), and Previous Year Question (PYQ) banks—is curated by faculty and alumni from various Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
AI Integration and Technology
SATHEE integrates several artificial intelligence tools to assist in self-paced learning and continuous assessment:[3]
- AI Tutor & Visual Solver: A 24/7 chatbot utilizing OCR technology that allows students to upload photographs of handwritten or printed problems for instant analysis and step-by-step Socratic explanations.
- Adaptive Testing & Rank Simulator: An AI mock test generator that continuously adjusts question difficulty based on a student's real-time performance. A built-in rank simulator uses mock test scores to predict expected exam ranks.
- Spaced Repetition System (FSRS): AI-powered flashcards and memory tracking that schedule concept reviews at optimal times to aid long-term retention.
- Study Planning: Automated tools that generate day-by-day study schedules based on a student's exam date and identified weak subjects.
Mentorship and Live Sessions
Beyond automated tools, the platform facilitates human-led educational support. SATHEE hosts "Solve with Me" interactive sessions and provides live doubt-clearing functionality available daily. The platform also offers mentorship programs connecting aspirants directly with current students from premier institutes like IITs and AIIMS.[4]
Multilingual Support
To ensure linguistic inclusivity, SATHEE provides study materials and AI explanations in English, Hindi, and 12 regional Indian languages. This translation infrastructure is facilitated by an AI-based tool developed by the SATHEE.
Supported Examinations
Initially launched to assist students with engineering and medical entrance exams, SATHEE's coverage has expanded to support a wide array of national and state-level competitive examinations:[5]
- JEE (Main & Advanced)
- NEET UG
- Common University Entrance Test (CUET UG)
- Staff Selection Commission (SSC CGL, CHSL, MTS)
- Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS PO, Clerk, SO)
- Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR AIEEA)
- Common Law Admission Test (CLAT)
- Railway Recruitment Board (RRB NTPC, Group D)
Accessibility
SATHEE is accessible across multiple digital and broadcast mediums:
- Mobile Applications: Dedicated mobile applications are available globally on the Google Play Store for Android devices and the Apple App Store for iOS devices.[6]
- SWAYAM Prabha DTH Channels: SATHEE broadcasts continuous educational programming via the Ministry of Education's SWAYAM Prabha Direct-to-Home (DTH) television network. Specific channels are dedicated to different exam streams, including CH 01 (Engineering), CH 02 (Medical), CH 03 (Law), CH 04 (Agricultural), CH 05 (SSC), CH 06 (Banking), and CH 07 (Railway).[7]
