Redi Marku (born 1977) is an Albanian classical guitarist, composer, arranger, and educator. He is known for his original works for classical guitar and for his contribution to the promotion of Albanian music within the international classical guitar repertoire.
Early life and education
Marku was born in Pogradec, Albania. He began studying classical guitar and music theory at the age of 15. In 1998, he moved to Cluj-Napoca, Romania, where he studied at the Gheorghe Dima Academy of Music. He completed his studies in 2005, earning a Master’s degree in the stylistics of classical guitar performance.
Career
In 2006, Marku returned to Albania and began teaching classical guitar at the Artistic High School of Music in Tirana. Between 2007 and 2011, he also served as an external lecturer in the classical guitar department at the University of Arts in Tirana.
Alongside his pedagogical activity, Marku has developed an extensive body of original compositions and arrangements for classical guitar. His works are published by Bergmann Edition (Denmark)[1] and are held in the collections of the Royal Danish Library (Det Kongelige Bibliotek).[2][3]
He is the founder of the Marku Guitar Competition, an international virtual classical guitar competition that has been referenced by academic and institutional sources in the United States.[4]
