Prime Speed Sport is a New Zealand motorsport team based at Hampton Downs Motorsport Park, with additional operations at Taupo International Motorsport Park. Founded in 2018 by Phil Hall, the team provides race car preparation, storage, and trackside support.[1] It has since expanded into international endurance racing, becoming the first New Zealand-based team to enter the Asian Le Mans Series.[2]

History

Prime Speed Sport was established in 2018. Initially focusing on domestic race preparation for amateur drivers, the team transitioned to national-level competition in the early 2020s, including the North Island Endurance Series and GT New Zealand. In 2024, the company launched an international program targeting endurance events in Asia and Europe.

Racing activities

Sepang 12 Hours

The team made its international debut in March 2024 at the Sepang 12 Hours in Malaysia. Running an Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 Evo, the team finished seventh overall and second in the Pro-Am class with drivers Jono Lester, Mana Malmezac, and François Beziac.[citation needed]

Asian Le Mans Series

In late 2024, Prime Speed Sport entered the Asian Le Mans Series, the first New Zealand team to do so. For the 2024–2025 season, the team campaigned a Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 in the GT class. Drivers Nick Foster, Jono Lester, and Mana Malmezac finished 19th in the standings.[citation needed]

24H Series

The team joined the 24H Series for the 12 Hours of Misano in Italy, finishing third in the Pro-Am class with a driver lineup consisting of Earl Bamber, Liam Talbot, and Mana Malmezac.[3] They subsequently competed in the 2025 12 Hours of Paul Ricard, where the car failed to finish following a collision.

Domestic competition

Prime Speed Sport is a frequent entrant in the North Island Endurance Series (NIERDC) and South Island Endurance Series (SIERDC). Between 2022 and 2025, the team secured several class titles and podiums, including a first-place finish in the 2022 NZ 3h Endurance Championship Cup Car Class and the 2024 NIERDC 1h Endurance GT4 Class.
