Pretour is the fifth extended play by German singer Kim Petras, serving as a teaser project for her upcoming album, Detour (2026). Released independently through YouTube and SoundCloud due to label conflicts, each song off the project was released one at a time, across a four-week period.[a][1]

Background

In 2016, Petras signed a publishing deal with Prescription Songs and has stated that her search for a label was hindered by religious record label employees refusing to work with a transgender act and imploring others not to. That year, she set up her own imprint, Bunhead Records.[2][3]

In August 2021, Petras signed to the Republic Records imprint Amigo Records and began the preparation of the release of her original major-label debut studio album, Problématique (2023)[4]. In August 2022, Petras announced that the project had been halted, following a mass leak of her music, ultimately putting her in a "limbo"[5].

In February 2023, Petras stated that an album that she had been working on "for three years" was ready to be released the next summer, sharing her excitement for people to hear the songs[6]. In May 2023, Petras announced the album, Feed The Beast (2023)[7], finally releasing her major-label debut studio album.

Release and announcement

In 2025, Petras would begin the roll-out to her third major-label[b] studio album, Detour (2026), with the releases of the singles, "Polo"[8], "Freak It"[9], and "I Like Ur Look"[10]. Following months without an official album announcement, in January 2026, Petras announced that she requested to be dropped from Republic Records for allegedly refusing to give her a date for her album and with-holding payment to collaborators.[11][12]

As a result, Petras announced the independent release of a four-track EP in February 2026, titled Pretour[1]. Consisting of songs that were made in the early studio sessions that led to the upcoming album, each track would be released one at a time through SoundCloud and YouTube[13], with the first release being on February 10, with the song "Pop Sound"[14], and ending in March 3, with the song "Get Some", which features American rapper Cortisa Star.[15]

Following a couple months after the release of the extended-play and her official departure from Republic Records[16], Petras finally announced the official release date for Detour, releasing in May 2026.[17]
