Draft:Phantom Records

Phantom Records is a recording studio and music production facility in Guatemala City, Guatemala. The studio began operating under its current name in 2017 and occupies facilities previously associated with the Guatemalan record company Discos de Centroamérica (DIDECA).[1] The facility has been used by Guatemalan artists including Alux Nahual, Viernes Verde and other musicians active in the country's contemporary music scene.[2][3]

History

The recording facilities predate Phantom Records. According to the studio's published history, DIDECA (Discos de Centroamérica S.A.) was established in 1964 and constructed its recording complex in Guatemala City's Zone 10 in 1974.[1] DIDECA was active in Guatemala's record industry during the vinyl era and distributed recordings in Guatemala and elsewhere in the region.[4]

DIDECA had an important relationship with the Guatemalan rock band Alux Nahual. The band recorded several of its early releases through Discos de Centroamérica during the 1980s and early 1990s.[5]

The facility began a new period as Phantom Records in 2017.[1] In 2023, Alux Nahual returned to the location while recording its album Once. Perspectiva described Phantom Records as the same studio where the group had recorded its first seven LP productions, noting the historical connection between the band's early recordings and the present-day facility.[2]

Recordings

Phantom Records has been used for recordings by several Guatemalan artists. Portions of Anette Pérez's EP Luna were recorded at the studio by David Chinchilla, who also participated in the mixing and mastering of the project.[6]

In December 2022, Guatemalan rock band Viernes Verde recorded its version of Piero's song "Mi viejo" at Phantom Records, with recording work credited to David Chinchilla and Vini Wonderlich.[3]

Alux Nahual used the studio during the production of Once, released in 2023. Contemporary coverage noted that the sessions represented a return to the location associated with several of the band's earlier recordings.[2]

Services

The studio provides recording, music production, editing, mixing and mastering services.[7]
