Open Badge Factory is a Finnish digital credentialing platform that enables organizations to create, issue, and manage digital badges based on the Open Badges standard maintained by 1EdTech. The company is headquartered in Oulu, Finland.[1][2]
History
Open Badge Factory was legally incorporated in Finland on 5 December 2018.[3]
Activities
According to the 1EdTech certification directory, Open Badge Factory is used by educational institutions, associations, and companies worldwide to create, issue, and manage digital badges.[2]
In Canada, the digital credentials platforms CanCred Factory and CanCred Passport are built on Open Badge Factory and Open Badge Passport technologies and are delivered by Canadian education technology provider Learning Agents.[4]
In March 2024, Open Badge Factory entered a distribution partnership with Tokyo-based education technology company Infosign to provide the platform and the Open Badge Passport service in Japan.[5]
Technology
The platform is based on the Open Badges specification maintained by 1EdTech. It supports Open Badges versions 2.0 and 3.0 and integrates with external systems through Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) and application programming interfaces (APIs).[6][7]
