Netchex is an American software company headquartered in Covington, Louisiana, that develops cloud-based human capital management and payroll software. Founded in 2003 by Will Boudreaux and Stuart Ethridge, the company provides payroll processing, human resources administration, benefits management, time and attendance tracking, and recruiting services, primarily to small and mid-sized businesses with hourly and frontline workforces. In June 2023, Netchex was acquired by the private equity firm GrowthCurve Capital.[1]

History

Founding and early years

Netchex was founded in 2003 in Mandeville, Louisiana, located on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain, by Will Boudreaux and Stuart Ethridge.[2] The founders had been roommates at Louisiana State University and spent approximately twelve years working together in payroll and financial outsourcing at ADP.[3][4]

Following the dot-com collapse, Boudreaux and Ethridge established Netchex using personal savings and a loan from the U.S. Small Business Administration to provide web-based payroll software.[3] The company focused on mid-market employers in sectors with high concentrations of hourly and deskless workers, such as hospitality, restaurants, retail, healthcare practices, and automotive dealerships, that the founders viewed as underserved by enterprise-level payroll providers.[3]

Louisiana expansion

In June 2015, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal and Netchex executives announced a $5.3 million expansion project in Mandeville supported by Louisiana Economic Development.[5]

The capital investment was allocated to leasing 30,000 square feet of office space to retain 86 existing jobs and create 240 new direct positions in St. Tammany Parish.[5] Netchex subsequently relocated its corporate headquarters to larger facilities in Covington, Louisiana, while establishing regional sales and support offices in Baton Rouge, Dallas, Atlanta, and Jackson, Mississippi.[1][3]

GrowthCurve Capital acquisition and leadership transition

In June 2023, the New York–based private equity firm GrowthCurve Capital acquired a majority equity stake in Netchex from previous investment sponsor Primus Capital Partners.[6]

At the time of the transaction, Netchex reported annual revenue exceeding $50 million, a client roster of more than 6,400 organizations, and approximately 340 employees, of whom roughly 200 were based in Covington.[7]

Following the acquisition, Boudreaux transitioned from chief executive officer to an advisory role on the board of directors, and Abhinav Agrawal was appointed as the new CEO.[8]

In 2024, Netchex integrated its platform with hospitality management software provider Inn-Flow to automate labor-cost accounting and payroll processing for hotel operators.[9]

Acquisition of Mesh.ai and AI integration

Netchex acquired Mesh.ai, a Y Combinator–backed technology startup that developed artificial intelligence tools for employee performance management and workforce analytics.[10]

Mesh.ai founder Saurabh Nangia subsequently joined Netchex as chief product officer.[8]

The company integrated this technology to launch the Mesh platform, a suite of task-specific AI agents within its core software designed to automate routine compliance monitoring, flag payroll discrepancies, and identify missing timecard entries.[8]

The platform was configured to require human authorization before completing sensitive transactions, while enabling employees to retrieve pay stubs and submit paid time off requests via integrated integrations with ChatGPT and Claude.[8]

Netchex provides a modular cloud-based software platform organized into several functional areas:

  • Payroll and Tax Compliance: Automated gross-to-net wage calculation, direct deposit distribution, multi-jurisdiction payroll tax filing, wage garnishment processing, and year-end Form W-2 and Form 1099 generation.
  • Human Resources Administration: Centralized employee records, digital policy distribution, electronic document storage, and asset management.
  • Time and Attendance: Electronic timecard management, biometric and mobile clock-in interfaces, shift scheduling, overtime alerts, and paid time off (PTO) accrual tracking.
  • Benefits Administration: Benefits enrollment workflows, insurance carrier connectivity, COBRA administration, and Affordable Care Act (ACA) reporting tools.
  • Talent Management: Applicant tracking, paperless onboarding workflows, Form I-9 verification with E-Verify integration, and employee performance reviews.
  • Compliance Tools: Regulatory reporting for Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) workplace logs and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEO-1) filings.
  • Mesh AI Layer: An automated workflow module that identifies timecard anomalies, monitors certification expirations, and facilitates conversational employee self-service inquiries.[8]
