Comment: The only thing approaching evaluation or review of the game is Pocket Games calling it "cute" in two sentences. The sourcing just isn't there at the moment for WP:GNG. VRXCES (talk) 05:47, 12 July 2026 (UTC)
Comment: play.google.com, 3AM Experiences and YouTube are not reliable independent sources. Theroadislong (talk) 16:41, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
Comment: Is there anything resembling review or in-depth coverage from a reliable source? You might like to look for sources using WP:VG/S or WP:VG/SE, as these will be the most useful to demonstrate it is notable against WP:GNG. VRXCES (talk) 08:54, 30 June 2026 (UTC)
Comment: A few things: * Citing that you verified the game mechanics by playing the game is not verifiable. You need independent reliable sources to provide that information. The game can only be used for evidence of its own plot as per WP:VG/MOS. * You can use the....< ref name > template to cite the same citation multiple times.* Currently, most secondary sourcing is concerned with the game's business acquisition. The absence of reception, evaluation or commentary on the game suggests it does not meet WP:GNG. VRXCES (talk) 20:52, 29 June 2026 (UTC)
Comment: Mope.io is a fun game, I used to play it back when I was in school. As of now, the sources you provide either don't provide significant coverage (i.e. more than just a listing in an app store), or don't provide any lasting coverage (acquisitions are quite common). Also, any source that is user-generated (i.e. TV Tropes or Wikipedia) shouldn't be used a source on Wikipedia. EatingCarBatteries (contribs | talk) 05:55, 29 June 2026 (UTC)
Comment: The largest problem is that Fandom is not reliable, but separately there are not enough independent sources that provide significant coverage. Also written more like a guide than an encyclopedic article. 🌀Hurricane Wind and Fire, why did you decline my draft? (talk) (contribs)🔥 01:30, 29 June 2026 (UTC)

Mope.io is a multiplayer browser game created by Canadian programmer Stan Tatarnykov.[1] The game was released on October 2, 2016 for web browsers, with mobile versions released later in November 2016.
Within three days of its launch, the game reached 3,000 concurrent players, and peaked at 21,000 concurrent players online in December 2017.[2]
Mope.io became a viral success, eventually reaching over 72 million lifetime players on the web and 7 million downloads across iOS and Android.[3][1]
In September 2020, the game was acquired by Addicting Games for a seven-figure sum.[3][4] In August 2024, 3AM Experiences published an official announcement stating they had acquired Mope.io from Addicting Games.[5]
Gameplay
Mope.io is a two-dimensional multiplayer survival game where players compete to reach the top of the server leaderboard.[1] The game features a variety of environments, including Land, Ocean, Desert, and Arctic biomes, alongside sub-biomes such as a Volcano.
The game involves controlling a mouse that must forage for food, avoid hostile animals, and climb the food chain to transform into various animals.[6]
Animals moving outside their native biome makes it harder to survive, which slows down its movement speed and causes its resources to drain faster. The game uses a level system based on tiers. Players gain experience points by foraging for food and eating animals from lower tiers to evolve into stronger species, eventually becoming an apex predator animal.[1][6] Interactions between players follow a strict predator-prey system, which uses colored outlines around animals to show who is a predator, prey, or peaceful. Creatures unlock unique active and passive abilities based on their tier and biome, while smaller animals can defend themselves by biting predators' tails. The late game shifts toward player-versus-player (PvP) combat, including organized 1v1 arena battles in dedicated arenas for high-tier creatures.
History and Development
Before learning software development, creator Stan Tatarnykov designed paper-based strategy games with his brother, mapping out fictional play areas and manually tracking currency and health metrics. Tatarnykov later cited the financial success of independent mobile application developers as his motivation for leaving university to pursue full-time game development. Prior to creating Mope.io, Tatarnykov developed seven to eight titles for the iOS App Store, including Floppy Worm, an independent iteration of the viral game Flappy Bird, which accumulated approximately 200,000 downloads.[2]
Tatarnykov sought to distinguish Mope.io from existing titles in the .io game genre by shifting the gameplay focus from pure player-versus-player combat to environmental survival. Tatarnykov's design philosophy prioritized a dynamic where players had to counter both opposing players and environmental hazards to survive. According to Stan, the longevity and structural growth of Mope.io relied heavily on a highly interactive development process driven by player feedback on public forums like Reddit. Tatarnykov explicitly utilized critical and negative community feedback to adjust character speeds and balance environmental mechanics[7]
This direct communication led to the invention of several mechanics unique to the title, including:[7]
The "Tail Bite" System Developed explicitly to counter high-tier player "bullying," this mechanic allowed groups of smaller, lower-tier players to collectively attack and damage larger predators.
Features such as a structured multiplayer food chain, flying mechanics, specialized 1v1 arenas, and status effects like poison and lava were introduced to enhance gameplay depth.[7]
Later in its development, Mope.io introduced an in-game shop with microtransactions, allowing players to purchase coins and unlock cosmetic skins.[2]
Following the acquisition by Addicting Games in 2020, Tatarnykov provided the new publisher with an extensive catalog of his personal development notes and concepts to ensure the game's continuous evolution. Among these ideas was a planned underground biome designed to add a new dimension to the standard map layout. Tatarnykov emphasized that the longevity of Mope.io relied on constantly updating the core predator-prey system while continuing to implement feedback from the game's active subreddit community. Tatarnykov stated that the primary reason for selling the title was that he had begun to lose his original motivation and creativity required to continue developing the game independently. After selling the game, Stan Tatarnykov changed the name of his official company from Mope.io Limited to Gatarn Games.[7][2]
In August 2024, ownership of Mope.io transitioned again when the game was acquired from Addicting Games by 3AM Experiences[5], with VexxusArts managing the game's technical infrastructure and serve as the publisher for the mobile version.
