  • Comment: Only the Variety source provides independent SIGCOV of Matriarch Productions, the Royal Television Society piece is just reprinting a press release and all other sources are about Graham and/or Walters individually, not the company. Devonian Wombat (talk) 03:30, 7 April 2026 (UTC)

Matriarch Productions is a production company founded by actors Stephen Graham and Hannah Walters. They produce both film and television projects. The company is best known for producing the film Boiling Point, as well as the spin-off series, as well as the television series Adolescence and A Thousand Blows.

Background

Matriarch Productions was founded in 2020.[1]

Founders Stephen Graham and Hannah Walters met whilst both training at the Rose Bruford College of Theatre & Performance, and after five years of friendship formed a relationship.[2] They married in 2008. Graham and Walters have acted in many of the same film and television productions together during this time. Their first film together was This is England in 2006. In 2025, they had been in a total of thirteen TV shows and films together.[3]

Matriarch Productions is based in Leicestershire, where the couple live.[4]

Ethos

The company aims to create opportunities for those underrepresented in the screen industries, as well as first time writers and directors.[4][5] They aim to improve representation both in front and behind the screen.

Their productions so far have illustrated this ethos. On the series of Boiling Point, there are many newcomers on the castlist.[6] They used an open casting (not often used in the industry), which is how the team found Missy Haysom, who had not acted before.[7] On A Thousand Blows, the company created a trainee role in every department, offering these to "people that wouldn't get it usually".[8] They also offer opportunities to individuals to step-up into more senior roles.[5]

Productions

Matriarch Productions produced the 2021 feature film Boiling Point.[9] In 2023, it went on to produce a television spin-off series of the film.

In 2025, Matriarch Productions produced the TV mini-series Adolescence.[9]

From 2025-2026, the company produced two series of A Thousand Blows.[10][1]

In 2026, it was announced that Disney+ has given Matriarch Productions a two-year first-look deal spanning both scripted and unscripted television.[11][12] They also have said they have a non-fiction project on the slate.[5]
