History

The station first signed on in July 2012 as KKYT, broadcasting a country music format branded as "The Coyote." On September 25, 2013, the station changed its format to classic rock and adopted the KZFX call letters on November 16, 2013.

As KZFX, the station operated under the branding The Super Rock and served Ridgecrest and surrounding communities with classic rock programming, local news, weather information, motorsports reports, and syndicated specialty programming.

On January 1, 2026, KZFX ceased over-the-air broadcasting and transitioned to online streaming. According to Federal Communications Commission assignment records, the station license was assigned to David Baes and the transaction was consummated in February 2026.[3] On February 27, 2026, the station adopted the KZRT call letters and resumed operation with a retro hits format.

Following the ownership change, KZRT returned to local FM broadcasting emphasizing locally originated programming, community involvement, and music from the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s. In 2026, The Daily Independent featured the station in an article titled A New Station Rises: 93 ZRT is Ridgecrest's Local Spot on the Dial.[4]
