January AI is an American health technology company based in Menlo Park, California. It develops artificial intelligence tools for metabolic health and personalized nutrition. The company was founded in 2017 by entrepreneur Noosheen Hashemi and Stanford University geneticist Michael P. Snyder.[1][2]
History
January AI began with digital health programs that combined continuous glucose monitoring, wearable sensors, and diet logs. These programs were studied in collaboration with researchers at Stanford University and published in journals such as npj Digital Medicine.[3]
In 2023 and 2024, the company’s technology was covered in food and nutrition industry publications for its use of “digital twin” models in product development and consumer research.[4][5][6]
The company also developed a mobile application that predicts glucose responses to meals without requiring a continuous glucose monitor. It was highlighted in Time, The Wall Street Journal, and other technology outlets.[7][8]
Research
January AI and affiliated researchers have published studies on digital health interventions for glycemic control. A 2025 npj Digital Medicine article evaluated outcomes for users of the company’s digital program and reported improvements in time in range and weight.[9]
Awards
January AI has been recognized by several independent organizations. It was named a Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum in 2021,[1] an Innovation Awards honoree at CES 2025,[10] and was selected for Time's “Best Inventions” list in 2025.[7] Fast Company included January AI in its “Most Innovative Companies” rankings.[11]
Investors
Independent business publications have reported that investors in January AI include Marissa Mayer, Mostafa Ronaghi, Steve Chen, Marc Benioff, Lily Sarafan, and Gary Kennedy.[12][13][14][15]
