The "Type 1 Camouflage" was the first domestically produced camouflage pattern and uniform in use by the Japan Self-Defense Forces, it has been out of use since 1991 with the adoption of the Type II Camouflage pattern. The "Type 1 Camouflage" is characterized by its usage of a tri-color leaf pattern, using light blue-green, green, and brown. ==Development and history The first prototypes of the Type 1 camouflaged were formalized in the early 1970s. The uniforms in this pattern were made from the same material as the previously adopted Type 65 Work Uniforms (A mixture of vinyl and cotton). The uniform was first deployed to the Regular Science Training Regiment and units in Hokkaido. At the time of its adoption, it was known as "Camouflage work uniforms" rather than "Combat uniforms" due to the social consideration that "the Self-Defense Forces are not an army"
