Itida (born Aditi Srivastava), based out of Los Angeles, California, is an Indian-American Singer, Songwriter, & Performing Artist.[1]Her family roots are from Lucknow, India. Itida has trained under Padmavibhushan Girija Devi (Benaras Gharana Classical).[2]
Career
After graduating from the University of California San Diego, Itida was originally going to pursue law. It was, however, her passion for music that led her to go back to India to study Hindustani Classical. At this time, she formally trained under her Guru under the traditional "Guru-Shishya Parampara" curriculum at the Sangeet Research Academy in Kolkata, obtaining her Masters in Arts. Her music reflects a mixture of Hindustani classical (Benaras Gharana), folk and sufi mixed with her western & global influences.
Itida released her debut album Pen & Paper in 2013 via Hungama Music/Artist Aloud. Itida then followed up with a fusion album titled Des-Pardes in 2014, also released under Hungama Music/Artist Aloud. Both albums were received well and reached the Top 10 in the Independent music charts in India[2]. Along with her two popular album releases, Itida has also produced and released singles.
In 2014, Itida founded the international fusion band Des Pardes. The band is a collaboration concept where Itida works with artists from all over the world to blend the music of the West with Benaras Gharana & Hindustani Classical. Des Pardes was the first international fusion band that was signed on to "Qyuki", the music company formed by music composer A.R Rehman. In addition to her solo performances & bands, she has collaborated with other artists on their tracks including Rabbit Sack C (RSC), Young Prozpekt (KR$NA), Harpreet Singh, and Aman Trikha.
She has performed both solo as well as with her band.[3] Itida & her band toured across India,[4][5][6] performing in places such as New Delhi, Lucknow, Saifai, Agra, Varanasi, and Mumbai. She has performed at large cultural festivals within India including Lucknow Mahotsav[7][8][9][8], Taj Mahotsav, Ganga Mahotsav,[10] Triveni Mahotsav,[11][12] Saifai Mahotsav & Pachmarhi Utsav.
Itida has been interviewed on a few television shows. She performed multiple times on Doordarshan Uttar Pradesh, including on their New Years Eve 2016 special. Itida was also interviewed on The Morning Show With Sanam Baloch, talking about her close friendship with actress Mahira Khan.[13][14][15] In addition to her music career, she also acted in the movie "Amit Sahni Ki List" in 2014.[16]
Awards
Itida was nominated for the 2015 Best Female (Pop) category in the Artist Aloud Music Awards. She was in the Top 5 out of over 200 female artists, with fellow nominees Sujata Majumdar, Sonali Vij, Chaittali Shrivasttava, & Shreya Ghoshal.[17][18]
Itida has also been awarded with the Uttar Pradesh NRI (Non-Resident Indian) Ratna Award by the Chief Minister of the State, Akhilesh Yadav in 2017 for her contribution to the field of culture.[19][20]
