Comment: Still lacking independent coverage. This company is very likely notable, but you need to prove it better with sourcing. grapesurgeon (talk) 17:49, 26 May 2026 (UTC)
Comment: The sources are largely like press releases; need more independent coverage. Also there's a good chunk of unsourced text in article. grapesurgeon (talk) 23:30, 26 March 2026 (UTC)

InBody Co., Ltd. is a South Korean medical device manufacturer that develops body composition analyzers based on bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) technology. Founded in 1996 and headquartered in Seoul, South Korea, the company produces body composition analyzers used in healthcare, research, sports science, and fitness industries.
InBody devices measure body composition indicators such as skeletal muscle mass, body fat mass, phase angle and total body water distribution.
History
The company was founded in 1996 by Ki-Chul Cha[1][2], a biomedical engineer who began developing the concept during his PhD studies at the University of Utah in 1992. Dr. Cha recognized that existing BIA devices were limited, and he developed a device using a different methodology, which became the first InBody product (InBody 2.0). The company was initially established under the name Biospace Co., Ltd. and later changed its name to InBody.[citation needed]
In 1999, the company signed a BIA technology transfer agreement with Yamato Scale in Japan.[citation needed]
In 2000, the company was listed on the KOSDAQ market and established its first overseas subsidiary in the US.[citation needed]
According to The Korea Herald, the company opened a plant specializing in body composition analyzers in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province, in 2004.[3]
In 2013, the company's InBody 770, InBody 570, and InBody S10 devices received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance.[4]
Its products are exported to more than 110 countries.[5] The company’s headquarters is in Seoul, and it has subsidiaries in United States, China, Japan, Mexico, India, Netherlands, Malaysia, Singapore, United Kingdom, Vietnam, Australia, Turkiye. Its body composition analyzers are used in medical, research, sports science, and fitness settings.[citation needed]
In 2023, the company signed a contract to supply body composition analyzers to the United States Marine Corps.[6]
In October 2025, Naver announced a partnership with InBody and acquired an 8.5 percent stake in the company.[7]
Technology
Since its founding, InBody has specialized in body composition analyzers using bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) technology. The company's devices employ direct segmental multi-frequency bioelectrical impedance analysis (DSM-BIA) and simultaneous multi-frequency bioelectrical impedance analysis (SMF-BIA) to estimate indicator's fat mass, skeletal muscle mass, lean body mass, and total body water. Its products are used in medical, research, sports science, and fitness settings.[citation needed]
Simultaneous multi-frequency BIA measurement was introduced in the InBody770.[8]
A 3 MHz frequency measurement system was later applied to the InBody970 and BWA 2.0 models.[2]
