Human Climate Horizons

Human Climate Horizons (HCH) is an open-access data and insights platform that provides localized information on the projected future impacts of climate change across several dimensions of human development and human security. It is a joint initiative of the Climate Impact Lab and the United Nations Development Programme’s Human Development Report Office.[1]

The platform provides hyperlocal coverage for more than 24,000 regions worldwide, with data organized across multiple policy scenarios and time horizons through the end of the 21st century. It is designed to offer empirically grounded information on the potential human costs of climate change, helping users explore possible futures and consider choices related to adaptation and mitigation.[2]

Human Climate Horizons draws on multidisciplinary research and is described as a scalable digital public good. Its data and analysis are intended to support decision-making by governments, researchers, practitioners and the public.

The latest release of the platform focuses on the effects of climate change on agriculture and the yields of six staple crops. This expands on existing Human Climate Horizons data and research on climate change impacts related to coastal land and flooding, mortality, labour and energy demand.[3]
