Greg Prato is an American music journalist, author, and interviewer. He is mainly known for writing books about rock music artists and for contributing to publications and websites.
Career
Prato is based on Long Island, New York,[1] and began writing in 1997.[2] Over time, he became a frequent contributor to online and print publications covering rock music and popular culture.[3]
He has written for outlets such as Songfacts,[4] Rolling Stone,[5] Billboard,[6] Classic Rock,[7] AllMusic,[8] and other music-focused publications, where his work has included artist biographies, album reviews, and interviews with musicians.
Prato has authored over 50 books since 2008,[9] focusing on the history of rock artists, as well as titles about professional sports teams.
The Seattle Post-Intelligencer once said, "Prato is something of a master at the art of the oral biography."[10] The metal-rules site also added about Prato, "American author Greg Prato seems hellbent on challenging Canadian Martin Popoff for global supremacy in the field of 'Most Hard Rock/Heavy Metal books published'."[11]
In addition to his own books, he has co-written books with artists, including Meat Puppets,[12] Primus,[13] and King's X.[14]
Prato has been a guest on radio, TV, and podcasts, including appearances on The Howard Stern Wrap-Up Show, [15] Eddie Trunk Live,[16] and Kennedy Saves the World Podcast.[17] He has also been interviewed for such DVD titles as Pearl Jam: Under Review.[18]

Throughout his career, Prato has conducted interviews with a wide range of recording artists, including Eddie Vedder, William Shatner, John Lydon, George Clinton, Ronnie James Dio, and Ace Frehley.[19] Additionally, he has interviewed renowned sports figures, including Joe Klecko, Mark Gastineau, Phil Niekro, Goose Gossage, Al Arbour, and Bryan Trottier.[20]
Prato has also penned liner notes for various music releases, including the Judas Priest box set The Complete Albums Collection,[21] the Devo CD/DVD Devo Live 1980, the Primus CD deluxe reissue of Sailing the Seas of Cheese,[22] and the HIM box set, Lashes to Ashes, Lust to Dust: A Vinyl Retrospective '96–'03.[23]
