Digital Edge is a Singapore-headquartered private data center company focused on the Asia-Pacific region.[1][2] The company was launched in 2020 with backing from Stonepeak and an initial US$1 billion capital commitment to acquire and develop carrier-neutral data center infrastructure in Asia Pacific.[2]

In January 2025, Data Center Dynamics reported that Digital Edge owned and operated 21 data centers with more than 500 MW of capacity either in service or in development, with another 300 MW reserved for future development across several Asian markets.[3] The same month, the company announced that it had raised more than US$1.6 billion in new equity and debt financing to support further expansion.[3][4]

By June 2025, Data Center Dynamics reported that the company had 24 data centers in operation and under construction and more than 1.1 GW of secured IT power across Japan, South Korea, India, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, while also pursuing entry into Thailand.[5]

On 24 February 2025, Digital Edge announced that group president John Freeman would succeed Samuel Lee as chief executive officer effective in the second quarter of 2025.[6] As of 8 April 2026, the company's official About page listed Freeman as CEO.[1]

History

Digital Edge was established in 2020 as a Stonepeak-backed data center platform for Asia Pacific.[2][7] At launch, trade publications reported that the platform's initial projects in Japan included a 12 MW site in Osaka and a strategic partnership on the Mejirozaka Data Center in Tokyo.[2][7]

In March 2021, Digital Edge announced the acquisition of two operational data centers in Tokyo, ComSpace I and ComSpace II, from ARTERIA Networks.[8] Industry coverage said the deal expanded its footprint to six data centers across Tokyo, Seoul, Busan and Osaka.[8]

In April 2021, the company agreed to acquire Sejong Telecom's data center assets in South Korea, including a facility in Gangnam, Seoul, and a cable landing station in Busan, marking its entry into the South Korean market.[9] Data Center Dynamics and Data Centre Magazine reported that Digital Edge expected to invest more than US$120 million in South Korea including post-acquisition expansion of the assets.[9]

In June 2021, Digital Edge acquired a controlling interest in Indonesian digital infrastructure company Indonet for US$165 million through its Hong Kong subsidiary, becoming Indonet's largest shareholder and marking its initial entry into Southeast Asia.[10]

In April 2022, Digital Edge announced a partnership with SK Ecoplant to develop a 120 MW data center in Incheon, South Korea, described at the time as the country's largest commercial data center project.[11] In January 2023, the company entered the Indian market through a partnership with AGP and the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) to build a pan-India portfolio of hyperscale data centers, starting with a 300 MW project in Navi Mumbai.[12]

By January 2025, the company had expanded into multiple Asian markets and secured over US$1.6 billion in additional funding for further growth.[3][4] In June 2025, it announced a joint venture with B.Grimm Power to develop hyperscale and AI-ready data center campuses in Thailand, beginning with a planned 100 MW project in the Eastern Economic Corridor.[5]

Leadership

John Freeman became chief executive officer in the second quarter of 2025, succeeding Samuel Lee, who moved to a senior advisor role to the board.[6] According to the company, Freeman was one of Digital Edge's founding executives and had previously served as chief legal and compliance officer before becoming group president in 2024.[6]
