Decatur Classical School is a public K-8 elementary school located in the West Ridge neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois, United States. Decatur Classical is operated by the Chicago Public Schools system and was opened on 1978 as Greene Classical School, originally only having 1st-6th grade taught. In 1988, CPS added kindergarten to the school, by adding an additional grade forced a name change and the move to their now current location at 7030 N Sacramento Ave. The space occupied by the school in 1978-1988 is now where Mosaic/Boone Elementary School is currently located.[1] Decatur Classical was named after Stephen Decatur Sr., a United States Naval Officer in the American Revolutionary War.[2] In early 2020, The PBC (Public Buildings Commission) of Chicago had contracted Berglund Construction to have renovations made along with an annex to be built on Decatur Classical for $11,655,853.24.[3]
