History
Formation and early development (2024–2025)
Dead Jones was formed in late 2024 in Columbia, Missouri. The band began when singer Joe Tyler contacted drummer Colin Smith through Instagram after seeing that Smith listed drumming among his interests. The two agreed to start a band and soon expanded their lineup.
Tyler recruited Ben Gilmore, whom he had previously met at a guitar camp and who also attended the University of Missouri. Tyler later met Ryan Seaton in an English literature class and invited him to join as an additional guitarist. The final member, Camden Whitney, joined after Smith heard him playing acoustic guitar in a dorm room; Whitney then agreed to play bass for the group.
Early performances and campus popularity
Dead Jones began by performing free charity concerts on the University of Missouri campus, supporting organizations such as the Wounded Warrior Project and the Live Like Lou Foundation. As their popularity grew, the band became a regular presence in the university’s fraternity scene, performing at parties and student events.
The group later expanded to larger performances, including appearances at campus festivals and opening for rapper Lil Skies at Greekfest.
Musical style
Dead Jones blends elements of country rock, indie rock, and alternative rock. Their live sets consist primarily of cover songs from popular country artists alongside indie and alternative rock acts, designed to engage a wide audience.
All members of the band contribute musically, with shared responsibilities in vocals, guitar, and rhythm sections. The group emphasizes energetic live performances and audience interaction, regardless of venue size.
