Daniel Arbour
Daniel Arbour is a Canadian public official and community leader, best known for serving as the elected Director for Electoral Area A, which includes Royston, Union Bay, Fanny Bay, Denman Island, and Hornby Island in the Comox Valley Regional District of British Columbia. He has held this position since 2018 and was re-elected in 2022.
Early life and education
Daniel Arbour holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Studies from Royal Roads University and a certificate in Public Policy Analysis from the London School of Economics.
Career
Local Government
Arbour was first elected as Director of Electoral Area A of the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) in the 2018 British Columbia municipal elections, winning with 63.3 % of the vote, and was re-elected in the 2022 elections with over 80 % support.
As Area A Director, Arbour represents a largely rural and island region of the Comox Valley on the CVRD Board of Directors. In this role he participates in governance over services and planning matters in communities including Denman Island and Hornby Island, collaborating on infrastructure, recreation, environmental stewardship, and regional partnerships.
He has served on multiple boards and committees related to regional parks and trails, water services, hospital district oversight, and community recreation, and has been involved with external bodies such as the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and Island Corridor Foundation.
Professional and Other Work
In addition to his political role, since 2024 Arbour has worked as a Partnerships and Grants Specialist at the University of Victoria’s Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions. He previously served as an economic development officer on Hornby Island and as a program manager with Ecotrust Canada, where he helped secure a five-year federally funded sustainable forest management partnership with the Nuu-chah-Nulth Nations.

As an elected director, Arbour has been involved in various local initiatives, including improvements to active transportation infrastructure, community hall repairs, regional trail development, and water-system planning.
