Draft:CrashPlan

  • Comment: Also, this draft seems to be largely built around routine coverage that is not sufficient to prove notability. Disclosure: I am a former user of CrashPlan’s defunct consumer service. pythoncoder (talk | contribs) 16:34, 17 April 2026 (UTC)

CrashPlan is an American data backup and recovery company. It originated as a product within Code42 and became a standalone company in 2022 following a carve-out backed by Mill Point Capital. In 2024, CrashPlan acquired Parablu, a company focused on Microsoft 365 data protection.[1][2][3]

History

CrashPlan was developed within Code42, a Minneapolis-based software company. In 2014, the Star Tribune reported that Code42 had grown to about $40 million in annual revenue, mainly from CrashPlan.[4] In 2015, TechCrunch described Code42 as the developer of the CrashPlan enterprise backup tool.[5]

In 2017, Code42 discontinued CrashPlan for Home, its consumer cloud backup service, and shifted its focus to business and education customers.[6]

In 2022, CrashPlan was separated from Code42 in a carve-out transaction involving Mill Point Capital, after which it operated as a standalone company.[7][8]

In 2024, CrashPlan acquired Parablu. CRN reported that the acquisition added Microsoft 365 data protection technology and expanded CrashPlan's international reach.[9]
