Codurance is a software engineering consultancy headquartered in London, United Kingdom. Founded in 2013 by Sandro Mancuso and Mashooq Badar, the company operates based on the principles of software craftsmanship. It has additional offices in Manchester, Leeds (UK), Barcelona, Madrid (Spain), Lisbon (Portugal), and São Paulo (Brazil).
History
The company's origins are linked to the London Software Craftsmanship Community (LSCC), which was founded in 2010 by Sandro Mancuso, Mashooq Badar, and David Green.[1] The community was established as a place for software developers to collaborate and learn engineering practices aligned with the software craftsmanship manifesto.
In 2013, Mancuso and Badar founded Codurance as a professional consultancy to help organisations improve their software practices and legacy systems. In 2014, Mancuso published The Software Craftsman: Professionalism, Pragmatism, Pride (Prentice Hall), which features a foreword by Robert C. Martin.[2]
Operations and expansion
Following its launch in London, the company expanded its physical presence to several regions:
- 2016: Opened its first overseas office in Barcelona, Spain.
- 2017: Launched the SC London conference, focused on software craftsmanship education.
- 2018: Opened a Manchester office, expanding headcount.[3]
- 2021: Expanded operations to Madrid and Lisbon.
- 2023: Opened new locations in Leeds, UK, and São Paulo, Brazil.
Recognition
In 2023, a Codurance employee was shortlisted for the Digital Revolution Awards in the "Outstanding Contribution to the AWS Community" category.[4] In 2025, the company was announced as a principal partner for the Rainmakers 2026 programme by TheBusinessDesk.com.[5]
