Cloverdale is the stage name of Alex Walsh, a Canadian DJ, record producer, and label founder based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Known for his high-energy sound, Walsh has become a notable figure in the North American electronic dance music scene.
Career
Walsh first gained recognition under the alias AWAL, releasing dubstep and bass music, signing records with Flux Pavilion's Circus Records and Deorro's Panda Funk, accumulating millions of streams.[1]
In 2018, Walsh launched the Cloverdale project alongside roommate Jarett MacNeil, pivoting toward house and techno music. As Cloverdale, the duo released music on labels including Dim Mak, Night Service Only, Club Sweat, and Insomniac's In/Rotation, as well as Dr. Fresch's The Prescription Records.[1][2][3] The duo's 2019 track "Octane" received a sync placement in the Netflix original series Behind Her Eyes.[1]
In the summer of 2020, MacNeil and Walsh parted ways as Walsh took the Cloverdale project solo. That fall he launched Vibrancy, a record label and platform pairing musicians with visual artists.[1] In 2022, Cloverdale expanded the Vibrancy brand by hosting Vibrancy Festival in downtown Halifax, Nova Scotia. Since 2024, the festival has been held inside the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site.[4][5]
Channel 303 (2025)
On August 15, 2025, Cloverdale released Channel 303, a 14-track album presented as a continuous mix.[6] The album is the recorded companion to his live audiovisual show of the same name. Drawing on themes of early 1990s nostalgia, the project is built around the concept of a fictional TV station called Channel 303, and incorporates samples of vintage television commercials and news broadcasts from Halifax, Nova Scotia.[7] The project marked a new direction for Cloverdale, performing as a live act for the first time rather than in his traditional DJ format.[6][7]
Live performances
Cloverdale has performed at a number of major North American electronic music festivals and venues. Notable performances include Nocturnal Wonderland (2022),[8] EDC Las Vegas (2023),[9] Ubbi Dubbi Festival in Fort Worth, Texas (2023),[10] The Brooklyn Mirage (May 7, 2023),[11] and îLESONIQ in 2021[12] and 2024.[13]
Recognition
In 2026, he received a Juno Award for Electronic Album of the Year nomination for Channel 303.[14] The album's second single, "Dream Operator," earned him nominations for Dance Release of the Year and Producer of the Year at the 2026 East Coast Music Awards.[15] His music has been supported by artists including David Guetta, Steve Aoki, Tchami, and Malaa.[1]
