Chez Philippe is located in Memphis, Tennessee inside the Peabody Hotel. Chez Philippe opened in January 1982. The restaurant is known for its elegant decor and chef-driven cuisine that blends modern American cooking with French influences, offering a tasting menu set in Parisian dining room.

History

The Peabody Hotel originally opened in 1869 in Downtown Memphis, Tennessee. It was founded by Colonel Robert C. Brinkley, who named it in honor of his friend, Philanthropist George Peabody. In 1925 the current Peabody Hotel opened on September 1st at 149 Union Avenue. It was designed by Italian Renaissance Revivalist architect Walter W. Ahlschlager. The Belz family purchased the property in 1975. After extensive renovation, the hotel reopened in 1981 under Belz ownership, helping spark the revitalization of downtown Memphis, Tennessee.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the restaurant closed to the public and reopened in 2023.

Cuisine

Chez Philippe offers a multi coursed Tasting menu. Including supplements such as Caviar and Truffle. During the Winter holiday season, Thanksgiving, and New Year's Eve, the restaurant may offer special menus.

During mid-day, Chez Philippe offers a traditional High tea.

Reception

Since 1997, Chez Philippe has held four stars in the Forbes Travel Guide.[1]

Chez Philippe was voted the number 1 hotel restaurant in USA Today's "Best of" for 2023 and 2024.[2]

Since 1995, the restaurant has been the recipient of Wine Spectator's Award of Excellence[3]

Since 1998, The restaurant has held four diamonds from American Automobile Association.[4]
