Cascade Health is a nonprofit healthcare organization based in Eugene, Oregon, United States. It provides community-based medical and supportive services across Lane County, including hospice and palliative care, occupational health, behavioral health services, rehabilitation therapies, and wellness programs.[1]

The organization operates across home, clinic, and workplace settings and has been described as a regional provider focused on addressing gaps in community healthcare services.[2]

History

Cascade Health was established in 2003, following changes to the local healthcare system after the sale of McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center to a for-profit operator.[3]

As part of those changes, several community-based programs—including hospice, home health, and occupational health services—were separated from the hospital and reorganized under an independent nonprofit organization.[2]

The organization was initially known as Willamette Community Health Solutions and later became Cascade Health.[2]

Since its founding, Cascade Health has expanded its services in response to community needs, adding behavioral health programs, therapy services, and employer-based wellness clinics.[2]

Services

Cascade Health provides healthcare services across clinical, home, and workplace settings, including:

  • Hospice and palliative care
  • Occupational health services and workplace clinics
  • Physical and occupational therapy
  • Behavioral health services, including counseling and employee assistance programs
  • Diabetes and nutrition education
  • Mobile and on-site health services

Pete Moore Hospice House

A central component of Cascade Health’s services is the 'Pete Moore Hospice House, which opened in Eugene in 2017.[4]

The $8.1 million, 17,000-square-foot facility includes 14 patient rooms and was developed over approximately a decade through community fundraising and planning.[4]

According to The Register-Guard, the hospice house was created to serve patients with terminal illnesses who could not be cared for at home, addressing a gap in end-of-life care in the region.[4]

The facility is the first hospice house in Lane County and provides hospital-level care in a residential setting designed to support both patients and their families.[5]

The facility includes a full interdisciplinary care team and spaces designed for family use, including living areas, a kitchen, and outdoor access from patient rooms.[5]

Recognition and rankings

Cascade Health has been named multiple times to the “100 Best Nonprofits to Work For in Oregon” list published by Oregon Business, a ranking based on employee surveys and organizational practices.[6]

In hospice care, Cascade Health has been listed among providers evaluated by the National Hospice Locator, which ranks hospice organizations using quality and performance metrics.[7]

In 2022, CEO Eric Van Houten was interviewed on KLCC’s Oregon Rainmakers, where the organization was described as providing a wide range of healthcare services across Lane County.[8]
