Cal-Earth (short for California Institute of Earth Art and Architecture) is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization that promotes sustainable building through the use of earthen construction techniques.[1]. Founded in 1991 by architect Nader Khalili, the organization is best known for developing and disseminating the Superadobe and earthbag construction systems, which use locally available materials to create structurally resilient and environmentally sustainable buildings.
Cal-Earth’s work has been applied internationally in contexts including low-cost housing, disaster relief, and experimental architecture. The organization also operates a seven acre educational campus and training center in Hesperia, California offering public programs and apprenticeships[2]
