Anunnaky is a privacy-focused social networking service that connects people born on the same date and lets users gather anonymous ratings of their character traits from people who know them. The platform is organised around two features: "birthday communities", which group members by their date of birth, and an anonymous trait-rating system in which a user's friends, family and colleagues privately score personality traits without their individual responses being revealed.[1]
Anunnaky is accessed through a web application and uses phone-number verification rather than a password for sign-in.[1]
History
According to the company, the concept for Anunnaky originated from an account of two journalists who, after working for years in different countries, found that they had separately reported on similar crimes that took place at the same time, and that the two perpetrators had been born on the same day and year. The coincidence prompted the question of how much people who share a birthday might have in common, which the founders describe as the basis for the platform.[2]
Concept
Anunnaky combines two distinct ideas. The first is a set of "birthday communities" that group users by their birth date so that members born around the same time can share life stories and compare experiences. While the user base is small, communities are grouped by birth year and a seven-day "birthday week" window; the company states that its longer-term aim is communities centred on the exact same day, month and year.[2]
The second is an anonymous character-rating system. A user invites people who know them — organised into fixed groups called "circles" (Family, Friends, Neighbors and Work) — to rate personality traits on a five-point scale. To protect raters' anonymity, the results in a circle are revealed only after a minimum number of submissions and are released in batches rather than one at a time, so that no single rating can be linked to a particular person.[1]
Features
Within a birthday community, members can publish an introductory life-story post, share a daily reflection, comment on and react to other members' posts, browse other members, and maintain a photo "life album". Communities also display aggregate statistics about their members.[1]
Accounts are created with a phone number and verified by a one-time password sent over WhatsApp or SMS.[1]
Anunnaky operates on a freemium model. A free tier provides the core community and rating features, while a paid "Pro" subscription, priced at US$4.99 per month, adds features such as additional invitations, expanded trait analytics, a larger life album and an annual personality report.[1]
